Fishing is very popular on Fraser Island, when the tailor run in the winter months the beaches are lined with hundreds of fisherman.
Fraser Island has an interesting history with the first white man, Matthew Flinders arriving there in July 1802. At that time the Island was known as "K'gari" by the Aborigines until 1836 when Captain & Elisa Fraser were shipwrecked in the "Sterling Castle" on the Swain Reefs and drifted on to the island. The name was later changed by the white settlers to Fraser island.
